SEVNICA CASTLE
Exceptional history, a place of culture and art. Sevnica Castle.
Sevnica Castle stands proudly on a scenic hill above the old town center of Sevnica, on the site of an earlier fort believed to have been built in the first half of the 12th century.
It was first mentioned in written records in 1309 as “castellum Liechtenwalde.” Unlike many other castles, it escaped destruction during the Croatian–Slovenian Peasant Revolt of 1573.

From that period dates the Lutheran Cellar, which was occasionally visited by Jurij Dalmatin (c. 1547–1589) and later became the burial chamber of several Sevnica noble families. Today, its remarkable acoustics make it a unique venue for concerts and cultural events.
In recent years, extensive renovation work has restored both the castle and its surroundings, creating a stunning medieval panorama together with the old town below.
The castle offers a rich variety of experiences and attractions:
- A castle villa with a guest apartment
 - A wine cellar featuring a fine selection of local wines
 - A Blue Franconian wine cellar
 - A renovated castle park with marked energy points and majestic old trees
 - Weddings in the park or within the castle’s elegant interiors
 - Programs for children and youth, including guided tours with animations, puppet shows, creative workshops, and castle games
 - The “Forest Is Culture” theme trail
 - The Blue Franconian Festival, culinary evenings, concerts, performances, and art exhibitions
 - The traditional Sevnica Castle Summer Festival
 - Venue rental for business meetings, conferences, receptions, banquets, and private celebrations
 - A motorhome stopover below the castle — a free, well-equipped parking area with electricity, water supply, and waste disposal facilities
